Studying Marketing in Munich
Gonzalo Alba moved to ISM Munich after studying something different in another Bavarian city, Ingolstadt. There he is completing his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing & Communications Management in German.

Entry requirements
Our Bachelor programs are designed for applicants who have achieved general qualification for US or German university admission.
However, we will gladly perform a free pre-check to verify if your school certificate enables you to study in Germany. For this initial check of your qualification for a Bachelor’s, please submit the following documents to our study advisor below:
- Your high school leaving certificate (if available) and
- Transcript of records (your grades). No specific GPA or Numerus Clausus (NC) is required in order to appy.
- A brief Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Optional: proof of English language knowledge or let us know if you are a native speaker.
Upon examination and sucessful verification of your documents, you will be asked to apply online.
Recommended application period: ca. 4-6 months before semester start. Students from United States must apply for a German study visa (see details below under "How to apply from United States"). Send your documents now for a quick eligibility check.
Application period and deadlines
While we do not have any strict or fixed application dates for our programs, we kindly ask international applicants who require a study visa for Germany to try to submit their complete application documents no later than:
- July 15th for the programs that start in the fall term and
- December 15th for the programs starting in the spring term.
Note: the valability of the admission test at ISM is of 1 year.

The ISM Munich campus opened in 2009 and is located in the Karlshöfen, just a few minutes walk from famous Königsplatz and easily accessible from the Munich train station. Verify admission requirements
- If you're dreaming of spending your undergraduate studies in the heart of Europe, you have to meet certain eligibility requirements, such as having a school leaving certifcate that entitles you to study at a German university of applied sciences. The rule of thumb is, as long as you qualify for US university admission, you should also qualify for German admission.
- First, ensure your higher secondary education is recognized – this means you have a completed 12 grades certificate from high school. No specific GPA is required in order to appy.
- Second, we ask future students to have an English level corresponding to the B2 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- If English is not your native language or you have not studied previously in English, we ask that you take an online performance test in English.
- Having a prior English certificate is not necessary for registering in a Bachelor’s admission test at ISM.
Send your documents for a pre-check of your application
- Gather all available documents such as transcripts of your grades, school leaving certificate from high school (if already available) and write a brief CV or resume. Also, make sure that you have a valid passport.
- Send the documents mentioned above to our study advisor (see below) to verify whether you meet the general criteria to apply.
- They will gladly perform a fast check before we can give you green light to upload your documents online.
- This service as well as the application itself is free of charge.
Apply online for admission
- Then you will apply for an admission test date online and subsequently fill out the online application form on our website.
- We'll send you per email a link to our Application Portal where you can upload all your documents.
- Besides the documents mentioned above, we ask you to include a:
- digital passport photo,
- the original copies of your certificates and
- short, compelling motivation letter. - In your application, we are interested to get to know you better, your background and the motivation for your studies at ISM.
Take online assessment test in Mathematics and English
- Once you've registered online for admission, any time prior to your admission interview day you will have to take two assessments online, in Mathematics and in English (if you are not an English native speaker, do not have any language cerficate or have not previously studied in English).
- You’ll receive the link to the online tests as well as the subjects needed to prepare with instructions from us by email.
Online interview with university staff
- On the admission test day you will have an interview with our staff. We want to get to know you and your motivation to study at ISM.
- We’ll also briefly discuss with you the results of your Math & English tests and clarify the next steps and your questions.
- Once you've had your interview, you await the admission committee's decision, which usually takes just a few days.
Decision and study start preparation
Once accepted at ISM, you will receive a confirmation letter of acceptance followed by a study contract from us with which you apply for a visa from the local embassy and then enrol at ISM.
Important:
- German student visa processing time may take approximately 4-12 weeks! The processing time depends on the local German Embassies and Consulates.
