Entry requirements for Master programs in Berlin
For the pre-check of your qualification for a Master’s program, please submit the following documents to a study advisor:
- Bachelor's degree (if available)
- Transcript of records
- Examinations taken should comprise at the end of studies the equivalent of 180 ECTS points or about 3 years of studies. NO specific average grade point is required.
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Proof of English language skills (if available), for eg. TOEFL, IELTS 6.0 or other international language certificate (only needed if the medium of instruction in your high school/university was not English).
Send your documents now for a quick eligibility check. Upon sucessful verification of your documents, you will be asked to register for an online admission test.
Recommended application period beforehand:
- for applicants from India we recommend applying four to six months up to one year year before your start semester (most Masters start in September/October).
- We advise Indian applicants to start early the application process, as also an APS certificate is required.
- Please get informed from the German consulate how long the visa application process is currently taking.

Application period and deadlines
While we do not have any strict or fixed application dates for our programs, we kindly ask international applicants who require a study visa for Germany to try to submit their complete application documents no later than:
- July 15th for the programs that start in the fall term and
- December 15th for the programs starting in the spring term.
Note: the valability of the admission test at ISM is of 1 year. We already accept applications for fall 2025.

Embarking on your academic journey in Germany begins with a straightforward online application process. First, choose your preferred Master's degree.

Check if you meet the university's eligibility criteria above, such as having a Bachelor's or first degree that entitles you to study at an university in Germany and English skills corresponding to the B2 level of the European Framework for Language Reference (upper intermediary level).
- Gather all already available documents such as transcripts of your grades (transcript of records), Bachelor's degree (if already available), write your CV, and make sure that you have a valid passport.
- Send these documents to our study advisor (see below) to verify whether you meet the general criteria to apply for a master program. They will gladly perform a quick check before they can give you green light to upload your documents online. This service as well as the application itself is free of charge.
Apply online for admission
- Apply for an admission "test" date online and subsequently fill out the online application form on our website.
- We'll send you a link to our Application Portal where you can upload your documents by email after you have registered for an "admission test". Besides the documents mentioned above, we ask you to include a digital passport photo, original, translated copies of your degree and a short, compelling motivation letter.
- In your application, we are interested to get to know you better, your background and the motivation for your studies.
- There is no Numerus Clausus (NC) in our programs, so no worries.
Prepare a case study
If you're a Master applicant, prior to your admission day you will have to prepare a case study or presentation of your Bachelor thesis or other relavant semester paper that you will upload online. You will receive an email with exact instructions on the requirements of the case study from us.
Online Interview and presentation of the case study/thesis
You will receive an email confirming your admission test day on which you will have an online interview with the study program director.
All you need to do is rehearse you presentation and show up for the online interview and your admission test day. Once you've had your interview, you await the admission committee's decision, which usually takes just a few days.
Decision and study start preparation
You make your decision. Once accepted, you will receive a confirmation letter from us where the next step is detailed.
Once you sign the study contract and pay the security deposit fee, you can start applying for your study visa from the German consulate or embassy in India.
Note that Indian students will have to include a certificate from the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) in their application for a student visa. This is called an APS procedure and was introduced in Germany in November 2022. For more information, please refer to the German embassy or to the ISM International Office.
