State-recognized, accredited distance learning university

Founded in 1990, ISM was officially recognised as a private, state-accredited university in 1994. Today, with over 35 years of academic excellence, ISM has established itself as one of Germany’s leading private business schools. From the outset, the university has focused on practice-oriented teaching, international collaboration, and the advancement of applied research. From the very beginning, we have focused on practice-oriented teaching, international networking, and the promotion of applied research. Since 2021, ISM has also offered distance learning as part of its portfolio.

ISM has received permanent state accreditation from the Ministry of Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (where ISM is headquartered). All distance learning programs are accredited by the German Accreditation Council and meet the quality criteria of the ZFU (Central Office for Distance Learning). The degrees are equivalent to those awarded by state universities. In addition, ISM holds the international AACSB accreditation, a prestigious distinction held by only about 6% of business schools worldwide.

As a state-accredited University of Applied Sciences, ISM combines academic quality with strong industry relevance. Within the ISM distance learning programmes, students study at a state-accredited University of Applied Sciences with permanent state recognition. All distance learning programmes undergo rigorous accreditation procedures, in line with the standards applied to all ISM programmes.

As part of this process, independent experts thoroughly evaluate the curriculum, programme design, examination formats, as well as the academic staff and technical infrastructure to ensure the highest quality standards.
