Entry requirements
For the initial check of your qualification for an MBA program, please submit the following documents to our study advisor:
- A first degree comprising 210 ECTS-points from a graduate program at an university, or a foreign university of corresponding rank as well. Note: your GMAT score does not matter for the admission at ISM.
- At least two to three years demonstrated professional work experience after the first degree.
- Proof of English language skills (e.g. TOEFL test)
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
Upon examination and sucessful verification of your documents, you will be asked to register for an online admission test.
Application period and deadlines
While we do not have any strict or fixed application dates for our MBA, we kindly ask applicants who require a study visa for Germany to try to submit their application documents no later than
- July 15th for the programs that start in the fall term.
- Study fee discount: Save 500 Euro when you sign a contract by June 15th.
Please note: the valability of the admission test at ISM is of 1 year. Recommended application period beforehand: ca. six months up to one year year before your start semester, especially if you come from a non-EU country.

Embarking on your academic journey in Germany begins with a straightforward online application process. First, choose your preferred Master's degree.
Verify admission requirements
Check if you meet the university's eligibility criteria above, such as having a Bachelor's or first degree that entitles you to study in Germany and a level corresponding to the B2 level (upper intermediary) as regards your English skills.
Send your documents to study advisor for a pre-check of your application
Gather your available documents such as transcripts of your grades (transcript of records), Bachelor's degree (if already available), write your CV, and make sure that you have a valid passport. Send these documents to our study advisor (see below) to check whether you meet the general criteria for a master program in Germany. She will gladly perform a quick check before we can give you green light to upload them online. This service as well as the application itself is free of charge.
Apply online for an admission test
Apply for an admission "test" date online and subsequently fill out the online application form on our website. Besides the documents mentioned above, we ask you to include a digital passport photo, original, translated copies of your degrees and a short, compelling motivation letter. In your application, we are interested to get to know you better, your background and the motivation for your studies.
Prepare a case study or summary of your thesis or other term paper
After your online registration for the admission process, we will ask you to prepare a case study in the form of a presentation for the day of the personal interview. This case study presentation can include presenting the main results/summary of your Bachelor's thesis or of an extensive term paper or - alternatively – can be on a predefined case study topic that our study advisors will send you in advance. You will receive an email with exact instructions on the requirements of the case study from us.
Online Interview and presentation of the case study/thesis
You will receive an email confirming your admission test day on which you will have an interview with the director of the study program.
The goal of this interview is to get to know you and your personal background better. We look forward to getting to learn about your professional and personal goals and your motivation for your studies. You will hold your case study presentation to the head of degree program during the interview. Once you've had your interview, you await the admission committee's decision, which usually takes just a few days.
Decision and study start preparation
You make your decision. Once accepted, you will receive a confirmation letter from us with which you can apply for a German student visa at the German Embassy in India. Note that Indian students will have to include a certificate from theAcademic Evaluation Centre (APS) in their application for a student visa. This is called an APS procedure and was introduced in Germany in November 2022. For more information, please refer to our study advisor.

To be eligible to pursue a Master's degree in Germany, international students typically need a relevant Bachelor's degree with good grades, proof of language proficiency in English, and the passion to thrive in a diverse cultural environment. You may also require specific qualifications depending on your chosen course such as a specific number of ECTS points that you received during your initial degree for a specific subject (such as business-related classes, or marketing etc.). An exception applies for the Master of International Business which can be taken also by students that have studied completely different fields than economics during their Bachelor.
What we require from you when you apply at ISM is:
- a successfully completed Bachelor's degree (transcript of records), comprising at least 180 ECTS points or an equivalent course of study at a university or university of applied sciences or a university of equivalent level, and examinations must be at least 30 ECTS points in the field of business sciences (exception: Master of International Business, here you can apply with any other previous Bachelor degree). If you're close to finishing your studies, you can apply even before your graduation at ISM.
- Other documents that you have to include are: a copy of your passport, a digital photo, your curriculum vitae (CV) and a short letter of motivation explaining your decision for the desired study program and what goals you wish to pursue.
- Proof of English language knowledge - if you hold an English language certificate, you also have to submit it to our admission portal, such as an IELTS score of 6.0 (only needed, if the medium of instruction in your university was not English or if your Bachelor is older than 5 years).
