MBA student Sophio Chitadze receives the DAAD Prize 2023 for outstanding achievements of international students at German universities
Sophio Chitadze from the ISM MBA General Management (part-time) program has received the DAAD Prize for outstanding achievements of international students at German universities at the ISM Campus Dortmund. The DAAD prize, which is endowed with 1,000 euros, is awarded to international students who have distinguished themselves both through special academic achievements and through remarkable social or intercultural commitment.
"I was very surprised and honored by ISM's nomination. Being recognized by the DAAD award represents a significant milestone in my academic journey and shows that my work so far has been worthwhile. I would like to thank the ISM International Office, who made the selection for the nomination, for all the support, my family who supported me during my studies and my MBA colleagues who have accompanied me on my academic journey. Last but not least, I would like to thank Germany for welcoming me with open arms and promoting internationality and international cooperation," said Sophio Chitadze.
Sophio, 32, comes from Tbilisi, Georgia, where she worked at the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science after completing her Master's degree in Economics at Tbilisi State University (TSU). She then made a career in project management and marketing in the hotel and hospitality industry until love drew her to Germany. By moving to Germany, she also opened a new chapter in her career and family life. She has now almost finished with her MBA degree and is preparing her final thesis.
During her studies at TSU in Georgia, in addition to her academic achievements, Sophio has been an active and leading participant in the student union as well as in student organizations. She has frequently participated in national and international conferences and events. This involvement and the internationally-focused MBA program at ISM allowed her to broaden her horizons, gain valuable insight into other cultures and network with peers from different backgrounds.
"They really did an outstanding job and I am proud to have a wonderful little group of great, well-prepared MBA students. I love teaching, and it's nice to see your work hit fertile, intellectual ground. That's what you hope for as a professor," says a delighted Prof. Dr. Qeis Kamran."
More information about the DAAD Prize:
The DAAD Prize, which is endowed with €1,000 per university and has been awarded for more than ten years, is intended to help put faces to the large numbers of international students at German universities and connect them with stories. This makes it clear that every single international student takes a piece of Germany back home with them and leaves something of themselves in Germany - an enrichment for both sides. The students should be at an advanced stage of their Bachelor's or Master's degree, have a good academic record and be socially committed. The awarding of the DAAD prize is also intended to make it clear to a wider public what an enrichment international students and doctoral candidates are for the university community.
