From Aspirin to Fisherman's Friend: Hamburg students launch field project with global market leader for tablet presses
For example, students of the Business Intelligence & Data Science Master's course take part in a so-called field project every summer semester. They are brought together with a company partner and given a data-based problem. This year's partner for the Hamburg students is Fette Compacting: Fette is one of these hidden global market leaders: they manufacture tablet presses. Every second tablet in the world - whether aspirin, paracetamol or Fischerman's Friend - is produced using a Fette machine.
The task: optimize onboarding
At the kick-off meeting at Fette's premises, the students were introduced to their task: You are to optimize onboarding for new customers by using data analysis and modeling methods to match the properties of a new powder with the many settings of a pressing machine. The result should be a convenient user interface that facilitates the onboarding process - a very challenging task that comes very close to the professional reality as a data scientist.
The result will be presented to the Fette employees at the end of the summer semester.
