INSPIRE Practice: How students have recently gained hands-on experience

How does a degree program truly prepare students for the professional world? Recent practice-oriented projects completed by our students under the guidance of their lecturers provide a clear answer.

Students from the M.A. Strategic Marketing Management and M.Sc. Business Intelligence & Data Science have recently gained a wide range of hands-on experience in real business contexts.

Project with L’Oréal

After several weeks of intensive work on a marketing concept for L’Oréal, the students presented their final results as part of the Market Research & Consulting Project led by Prof. Arne Westermann.

Such practice projects are an integral part of the curriculum at ISM. Students work on real business challenges provided by partner companies, develop their own concepts in teams and present their results directly to the company.

Project with Fette Compacting

Data Science students also completed a project with Fette Compacting. While one group focused on analyzing machine performance data, another transformed PDF reports into dashboards and structured Excel files. Both teams developed interactive dashboards that can be used in the company’s day-to-day operations.

“I was extremely impressed by what the students achieved – and so was Fette,” says Prof. Veith Tiemann.

Another key benefit of such projects is that they often lead to long-term connections and further opportunities for students.
