Exploring the Future of Ridesharing: ISM Students Collaborate with Match Rider in Heidelberg

Innovation meets academia: Last week, students from the ISM Campus in Stuttgart took center stage as they presented the results of their joint Bachelor seminar project in collaboration with Match Rider, a Heidelberg-based ridesharing platform.

This partnership brought academic research and industry expertise together to tackle pressing questions about the future of sustainable mobility in Europe. The project focused on analyzing the European ridesharing market with a multidisciplinary approach. International Management (English Trail) Students examined pivotal topics, including:

Regulatory frameworks: Identifying countries that provide the most favorable legal conditions for ridesharing.

Integration with public transport: Investigating where ridesharing platforms already collaborate with transit operators to enhance urban mobility.

Cultural influences: Understanding how cultural attitudes shape demand for shared mobility solutions.

Through extensive desk research and surveys conducted in two European countries, the team provided data-driven insights into the preferences and expectations of potential users. The findings, presented to Match Rider’s team, including Dr. Benedikt Krams and Alfie Swartzbaugh, sparked engaging discussions on sustainable mobility’s future in Europe. "It’s incredible to see how fresh perspectives from academia can complement industry goals," remarked Dr. Krams during the presentation.

The participating ISM students impressed the Match Rider team with their thorough analysis and actionable recommendations. This collaboration underscores the immense value of bridging academia and industry. "Our students’ work not only contributes to understanding sustainable mobility trends but also equips them with the tools to drive innovation in the field," said the supervising professor Andreas Helferich.
