Kia Motors head office in Frankfurt am Main ensures it is at the 'heart of Europe'. And Stefan Kuzmanovic found himself at the heart of the Korean carmaker during his internship at Kia Motors Europe. The M.Sc. International Logistics & Supply Chain Management student worked in the product management team responsible for the three model families Picanto, cee'd and Kia Niro.

The European markets and production facilities are managed from the hub in Frankfurt. The roughly 200 employees come from 30 countries. "I was amazed by the company's international perspective and the many different nationalities," explains the ISM student. "My team was involved with product planning for the current vehicle models and their successors." This involved defining the body design and package, planning pre-production models and the launch of the new vehicles.

Along with his team colleagues, he organised a test drive event for journalists during which the new Kia Niro was unveiled. "This was a key event, as it was the first time that Kia has launched a crossover with a hybrid drive. The preparatory phase gave me an opportunity to enhance my own knowledge of hybrid systems and new technologies."

During the internship Stefan also came into contact with two programs widely used in the automotive industry. Firstly, the JATO database, which provides an overview of competitors and models. And secondly the mTab database, which enables you to analyse customer behaviour and create typical customer profiles. "For example, it was possible to determine which brands our customers had previously driven and why they had decided to switch to Kia," explains the 25-year-old.

His already very keen interest in the automotive industry has been further boosted by his internship at Kia Motors. "I can fully recommend the internship," says Stefan. "Interns at the company are given quite large amounts of responsibility and are treated as fully-fledged members of the team. This was clearly demonstrated by the numerous team events to which the respective interns were obviously invited. In summary, it was the perfect blend of practical and technical experience underpinned by a great team spirit."
